The Law Library provides combined electronic and print collection tailored to meet the reseach and scolarship needs of the Law School community. This page provides an overview of available resources, finding aids, and tools and techniques for using those resources effectively.

Law librarians are available to provide both reference assistance and in-depth research instruction to Law School students. Those working on rigorous writings and other research projects are encouraged to set up an individual appointment. Both in-person and Zoom appointments are available.

Research Tools

Comprehensive Legal Databases

 

Access to certain legal databases, including Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law, is limited by subscription agreement to authorized members of the Law School community. J.D. and LLM students will receive Westlaw and Lexis password information in LARW.

M.A. in Law and B.A. in Law access is limited, but alternative legal research databases are provided. Contact Professor Magee for more information and for password assistance.

Lexis+ 

A comprehensive legal research platform that contains federal and state primary law and secondary resources, including law reviews, journals, treatises, commentary, news, and more. *Authorized Law School users only; password required

Westlaw Precision

A comprehensive legal research platform that contains federal and state primary law, and secondary resources, including law reviews, journals, treatises, commentary, news, and more. *Authorized Law School users only; password required

Bloomberg Law

Provides comprehensive access to up-to-date legal content as well as daily business news and market information.  Includes legal citator, cases, statutes, news, commentary and analysis, docket searching and transactional information. *Authorized Law School users only; registration required

HeinOnline

Online searchable, legal research collection includes Law Journal Library of U.S. and foreign titles providing comprehensive coverage, Congressional Record bound volumes, U.S. Reports, state statutes and session laws, legal classics, world-famous trials, the United Nations and League of Nations Treaty Series, U.S. Treaties, the Federal Register, Code of Federal Regulations and various, specialized collections

NexisUni

Comprehensive news, business, and legal sources from LexisNexis available to the entire RU campus community. Offers quick discovery across all content types, personalization features such as Alerts and saved searches, and a collaborative workspace with shared folders and annotated documents. Includes access to federal and state statutes, cases, regulations, law reviews, and journal articles; also U.S. Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1790.  

ProQuest Congressional

Provides federal legislative history information, including access to a wide range of Congressional documents, published and unpublished hearings, CRS reports and committee reports.  Includes access to the U.S. Congressional Serial Set, 1817-1980.

The Law Library uses LibGuides to create subject matter research guides on a wide variety of topics. The Law Library Libguide system undergoing maintenance. New Guides will be available soon.

Law School users conducting interdisciplinary or other non-legal research are encouraged to begin by exploring the resources provided by the University Library. Law librarians are happy to provide an overview and to assist Law School users in setting up appointments with the appropriate University Library librarian.

 

Database Access

Note:  RU Libraries are moving from EZ Proxy to Open Athens beginning Fall 2023.

On-Campus Access

Some databases will recognize on-campus users automatically. Others may require RU Login credentials.

Off-Campus Access

Off-campus users must use RU Login credentials to be authenticated for access.

Password Access

Access to Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, and CALI are limited to authorized Law School users.
